Fulham had late Yaser Asprilla loan offer rejected by Girona

Fulham made a late attempt to sign Yaser Asprilla from Girona on Deadline Day but were unable to convince the Spanish club to sanction his departure.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, Fulham submitted an offer for the 22-year-old during the final hours of the window.

The proposal was for a loan with a fee and an option to buy, but Girona rejected the approach and maintained the stance they had taken throughout the summer.

Asprilla had attracted considerable interest before Fulham entered the picture.

Celtic were among his admirers, while Valencia, Lecce and clubs in France had also considered moves for the Colombia international.

Girona consistently resisted those approaches, although their position earlier in the summer appeared to leave some possibility of a late departure.

Fulham tested that resolve by putting a concrete proposal on the table.

However, Sierra reports Girona refused to change their position even with Fulham offering an immediate loan payment and the possibility of a future permanent transfer.

No figures have been reported for either Fulham's proposed loan fee or purchase option.

Asprilla's future had become uncertain following a disappointing loan spell with Galatasaray.

The Turkish club previously agreed a temporary deal containing a €23m (£19.9m) purchase clause, but Asprilla struggled for regular football and suffered a knee injury before eventually returning to Girona.

That put another summer transfer on the agenda, with Asprilla reportedly keen to continue his career elsewhere in Europe.

Fulham offered a potential route away late in the window, but Girona's refusal means he must now remain in Spain and attempt to force his way back into their plans.

Asprilla will remain with Girona after the club resisted all summer interest and must now focus on rebuilding his position within the squad.

Fulham, meanwhile, missed another late attacking opportunity after an active end to the window. Asprilla's situation could become one to revisit if his playing time remains limited before January.
