Liverpool handed Yankuba Minteh January transfer hope after Hürzeler admission

Liverpool could be handed another opportunity to sign Yankuba Minteh in January after Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler suggested the winger may be able to secure his desired move during the next transfer window.

The Reds explored a deal for Minteh during the summer as Andoni Iraola looked for attacking reinforcements following Mohamed Salah’s departure.

Liverpool eventually added Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz, but neither is considered a natural right-winger, leaving that position as a potential area for further investment.

Minteh remained at Brighton despite Liverpool’s interest, and Hürzeler now wants the 22-year-old fully focused on performing for the Seagulls.

“He wears the Brighton colours, he wears the Brighton badge – he's been here for two years now,” Hürzeler said.

“We've achieved great things together. Therefore, it's also about him now to commit.”

However, the Brighton manager then opened the door to a potential January departure.

“If the whole team is successful, then Yankuba will maybe fulfil his dream in the next transfer window.”

Those comments could encourage Liverpool to revisit their interest when the market reopens.

Replacing Salah was always going to represent an enormous challenge following the Liverpool legend’s departure.

Barcola provides another elite attacking option, while Liverpool also retained Cody Gakpo after interest from Manchester City late in the window.

However, Iraola’s squad remains short of a specialist option on the right.

Liverpool also pursued Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr during the summer, but that move failed to materialise before the deadline.

Minteh therefore remains an obvious candidate should Liverpool decide to strengthen the position in January.

Unlike some potential alternatives, Minteh already has considerable Premier League experience.

The winger recorded seven goal contributions in 34 league appearances last season after registering 10 in 32 during the previous campaign.

For now, Hürzeler wants Minteh concentrating entirely on Brighton. But his acknowledgement that the player could fulfil his ambitions in the next transfer window ensures speculation surrounding Liverpool is unlikely to disappear.

Minteh must now focus on producing for Brighton, with Hürzeler making it clear that individual opportunities will follow if both the player and team perform successfully.

For Liverpool, the right wing remains a position to watch. If Iraola still believes his squad needs a specialist option when January arrives, Minteh could quickly return to the top of their transfer agenda.
