Lisandro Martinez has clarified his criticism of Manchester United's leadership following their 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, insisting his controversial comments came from frustration and a desire to see the club compete for major trophies.
The Argentina defender previously criticised technical director Jason Wilcox over United's squad-building, prompting questions about his future at Old Trafford.
Martinez has now released a lengthy social media statement explaining his position while reaffirming his commitment to the club.
Martinez explains Manchester United outburst
The 28-year-old acknowledged that emotions influenced his initial comments following the defeat in Spain.
"After the match, I spoke out of anger and frustration at not getting the result we all wanted," Martinez wrote.
He stressed that his demands reflected the standards expected at Manchester United rather than a lack of commitment to the team.
"When I talk about wanting more, I'm talking about the ambition we must all have as part of this club. To keep growing, to become stronger and to have everything we need to compete at the highest level."
Martinez also accepted that United's players must take responsibility for improving results.
"We need to demand even more of ourselves and work together to take Manchester United back to the top."
Rooney and Carragher question defender's criticism
Martinez's original remarks attracted criticism from former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
Rooney expressed sympathy for the defender's frustration but believed his comments went too far, while Carragher described the public criticism as "out of order".
Reports have also suggested United's hierarchy held discussions about the situation, although no disciplinary action has been confirmed.
Despite the controversy, Martinez insisted he continues to support his team-mates, manager and everyone working at the club.
"My goal has been the same since day one, to win, to compete at the highest level and to give everything I have for this badge."
