Lewis Hall reportedly wants to leave Newcastle United this summer, but the Magpies are refusing to entertain Manchester United's attempts to sign the 21-year-old.

Newcastle have already seen major changes to their squad following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon. Hall could become another high-profile exit, but his situation gives Newcastle considerably more control.

Manchester United are pushing for the England international, with figures of around £50m-£60m reportedly discussed. Newcastle's response remains clear: Hall is not for sale.

Newcastle have strong position over Hall

Hall's contract is one of the biggest reasons Newcastle can afford to stand firm.

The left-back is tied to the club until 2029 and reportedly has no release clause. There is therefore no immediate contractual or financial pressure forcing Newcastle into negotiations.

That separates his situation from some of Newcastle's other major departures this summer.

Even an offer approaching £60m would represent significant money for a 21-year-old defender, but Newcastle do not currently view it as enough reason to sacrifice an important member of their squad.

The bigger concern is Hall's own position.

Hall still wants Newcastle exit

Reports suggest Hall's desire to leave existed before Matthias Jaissle became Newcastle manager and has not changed following his appointment.

That potentially creates a difficult situation.

Newcastle can prevent Hall from leaving this summer, but keeping a player who wants a transfer does not necessarily solve the issue permanently.

Hall would have three years remaining on his contract next summer. Newcastle would still retain a strong negotiating position, although another season of the player wanting an exit could increase pressure on the club to eventually find a solution.

For now, however, Newcastle appear prepared to take that risk.

Why Manchester United want Hall

United's interest is understandable given Michael Carrick's options at left-back.

Luke Shaw is currently the club's only established senior option in the position following Tyrell Malacia's departure.

With Champions League football also returning to Old Trafford, United want greater depth and competition rather than relying heavily on Shaw throughout the campaign.

Hall fits the profile particularly well.

He is young, left-footed, already experienced in the Premier League and comfortable operating in a possession-based system.

United have also been linked with alternatives including Myles Lewis-Skelly and Antonee Robinson, but Hall appears to remain a major target.

Key Points

  • Lewis Hall reportedly wants to leave Newcastle.
  • Manchester United are pushing to sign the 21-year-old.
  • Figures around £50m-£60m have been discussed.
  • Newcastle have told United that Hall is not for sale.
  • Hall is contracted until 2029 without a reported release clause.
  • His desire to leave reportedly predates Matthias Jaissle's appointment.

What's Next?

Newcastle have the contractual strength to reject Manchester United's approaches and keep Hall for another season. The real question is whether that stance remains unchanged if United increase their offer before the deadline.

Even if Hall stays, however, Newcastle may eventually need to address why one of their most valuable young players is looking for a move away.

Should Newcastle continue refusing Manchester United's offers for Lewis Hall, even if the player wants to leave?
