Manchester City are preparing to return with improved figures for Palmeiras winger Allan Elias after the Brazilian club rejected their opening approach on Friday.

City have accelerated their pursuit of the 22-year-old and are now in active discussions with Palmeiras. Their first approach did not contain enough money to convince the Brazilian club, but another attempt is expected shortly.

The figure increasingly central to negotiations is €40m (£34.6m).

Palmeiras reject City's opening approach

According to ESPN Brazil, Manchester City presented initial figures to Palmeiras on Friday.

While it was not considered a formal bid, City's proposal was rejected.

That has not discouraged Enzo Maresca's side. City remain very interested in Allan and are now preparing an improved package containing a higher fee and performance-related bonuses.

Another approach could arrive quickly.

Brazilian outlet Nosso Palestra also reports that City have established official contact and indicated they could move closer to Palmeiras' valuation.

The Brazilian club are demanding a significant guaranteed payment, realistic bonuses and favourable payment terms before considering a sale.

Manchester City could go above €40m

Palmeiras currently have no intention of accepting an offer below €40m.

There are indications that a total package exceeding that figure could be enough to seriously test their determination to keep Allan.

His official release clause stands considerably higher at €100m (£86.5m), but City are not expected to need to approach that amount.

Instead, negotiations are likely to centre on whether the Premier League club can construct a package attractive enough for Palmeiras to change their position.

City's next proposal should provide a clearer indication of how far they are prepared to go.

Allan interested in Manchester City move

Palmeiras would prefer to keep Allan for the remainder of their season.

The 22-year-old is an important player for Abel Ferreira as the club compete for major trophies, meaning they have been reluctant to encourage negotiations.

However, the player's position could become significant.

Allan's representatives reportedly consider the opportunity to join Manchester City a “unique opportunity”, increasing the pressure on Palmeiras if City return with an offer close to their demands.

There is no agreement yet, but the situation has developed rapidly from City's initial interest into concrete discussions.
