Leeds United have joined the race to sign Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemović, adding further Premier League competition for one of Serie A's most highly-rated young centre-backs.

The Whites become the latest English club to show interest in the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, following Sunderland and Bournemouth, while Juventus continue monitoring the situation closely thanks to a lucrative sell-on clause.

Leeds enter race for Muharemović

According to reports from Italy, Leeds have now joined Sunderland and Bournemouth in tracking Muharemović ahead of a possible summer move.

Bournemouth were among the first Premier League clubs to enquire about the defender earlier this year, while Sunderland have already made significant progress by reportedly offering the 23-year-old a long-term contract.

Leeds are now the latest club to enter the battle as they look to strengthen their defence before the new Premier League season.

Interest in the Sassuolo defender continues to grow after another impressive campaign in Italy.

Juventus could benefit from transfer

Although Muharemović left Juventus to join Sassuolo, the Turin club remain in a strong position financially.

When Sassuolo signed the defender permanently following his initial loan spell, Juventus negotiated a 50% sell-on clause.

That means the Bianconeri would receive half of any future profit made on the player's sale.

There have even been suggestions Juventus could attempt to re-sign Muharemović themselves, particularly with new chief executive Giovanni Carnevali having played a key role in bringing the defender to Sassuolo.

His familiarity with the player could become important if Juventus decide to make their own move.

Inter interest has cooled

Inter Milan had previously reached a verbal agreement with Muharemović over a potential transfer.

However, the Nerazzurri never managed to agree a fee with Sassuolo and negotiations have since stalled.

With Inter no longer leading the race, Premier League clubs have stepped up their interest.

Leeds now join Sunderland and Bournemouth in what is becoming an increasingly competitive battle for the Bosnia international.

Juventus are also monitoring alternative defensive targets, including Jhon Lucumí and Lecce defender Tiago Gabriel, but Muharemović remains firmly on their radar.
