Fiorentina have reportedly made an inquiry for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, with sporting director Fabio Paratici considering the Dutchman as a potential replacement for Moise Kean.

Kean is attracting interest from Como, forcing Fiorentina to prepare alternatives should their leading striker leave before the transfer deadline.

Zirkzee has now joined that shortlist, with the 25-year-old also believed to be keen on returning to Serie A after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Fiorentina contact Man United over Zirkzee

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Paratici has contacted Manchester United to understand the conditions required to sign Zirkzee.

Fiorentina have not yet progressed beyond an initial inquiry, but the interest could develop quickly depending on Kean's situation.

Zirkzee is reportedly open to leaving Manchester United and would welcome a return to Italy, where he enjoyed an impressive spell with Bologna before moving to the Premier League.

Michael Carrick does not appear to consider the Netherlands international a major part of his plans, potentially opening the door for a late transfer.

Loan deal could include obligation to buy

A potential agreement could be structured as a loan with an option to buy, although that clause could become mandatory if certain conditions are achieved.

That structure would allow Fiorentina to limit their immediate expenditure while giving Manchester United a potential route towards eventually recovering a meaningful fee.

United paid around €42.5m for Zirkzee in 2024, meaning they are unlikely to accept a particularly cheap permanent departure despite his declining value.

Transfermarkt currently values the striker at around €20m.

Juventus also interested but currently blocked

Fiorentina are not Zirkzee's only potential destination.

Juventus are also interested, but their ability to make a move reportedly depends on finding a solution for Jonathan David first.

That could give Paratici an opportunity to move ahead of the Turin club if Fiorentina decide Zirkzee is their preferred replacement for Kean.

Everton striker Beto has also been mentioned among Fiorentina's alternatives, meaning Paratici is currently keeping several possibilities open.

Key Points

  • Fiorentina have made an inquiry to Manchester United about Joshua Zirkzee.
  • Fabio Paratici is considering him as a potential replacement if Moise Kean leaves.
  • Zirkzee reportedly wants to leave England and would welcome a return to Serie A.
  • A loan with an option or conditional obligation to buy could be discussed.
  • Juventus are interested but currently need to resolve Jonathan David's situation first.

What’s Next?

Much could depend on Moise Kean's future at Fiorentina. If his potential move develops, Paratici could turn his initial Zirkzee inquiry into formal negotiations with Manchester United.

United appear open to an exit, but the financial structure will be crucial given the €42.5m they invested in the striker only two years ago.
