Everton face Jonathan Rowe transfer blow as Bologna set huge asking price

Everton's hopes of signing Jonathan Rowe this summer appear to have suffered a major setback, with Bologna reportedly determined to keep the winger unless they receive an extraordinary offer.

The 23-year-old has attracted interest from the Toffees after an impressive first season in Serie A, but Bologna's stance has hardened following the sales of other key players.

According to Quotidiano Sportivo, Everton have already seen an approach rejected, with the Italian club now valuing Rowe at between €55 million and €60 million.

Earlier in the summer, Bologna were believed to be open to discussing Rowe's future following interest from both Everton and Aston Villa.

However, the club's outlook has changed after cashing in on Santiago Castro, while Jhon Lucumí is also expected to depart before the transfer window closes.

As a result, Bologna are no longer under pressure to sell another first-team regular and are determined to retain one of their standout attacking players.

The report claims only an "off-market" offer would persuade the Serie A side to reconsider.

The player's stance has also evolved.

Although Rowe had previously been linked with a return to English football, he is now reportedly prepared to remain at Bologna for another season.

The winger finished the 2025/26 campaign in excellent form after a slow start following his move from Marseille, ending the season with 13 goal contributions in all competitions.

Bologna believe another year in Italy could help him develop further before any future move abroad.

While Rowe's quality is not in doubt, Bologna's valuation makes a transfer increasingly difficult.

A fee approaching €60m would comfortably represent a club-record sale and is likely to be beyond what Everton are prepared to spend for a player who is still developing.

There are also concerns surrounding the winger's consistency and disciplinary record, with incidents during his time at Marseille and a recent pre-season friendly for Bologna raising questions.

Those factors only increase the financial risk attached to a deal of that magnitude.

Everton are expected to continue monitoring Rowe's situation, but Bologna's current stance makes a transfer unlikely unless their valuation changes dramatically.

With the transfer window still open, David Moyes' side may instead turn their attention towards more attainable attacking targets while keeping Rowe on their shortlist for future windows.
