Joao Palhinha has completed his Tottenham medical. The loan move from Bayern Munich is imminent, with Spurs paying far less in wages than originally reported.
Tottenham are now on the verge of finalising a deal for Joao Palhinha (BILD), with the Portugal international already completing his medical in Munich on Friday afternoon.
The former Fulham man has been left out of Bayern’s squad to face Lyon today and will join Spurs on a season-long loan that includes a €30 million purchase option.
Spurs Pay Much Less Than First Reported
According to Sport BILD, Spurs will cover Palhinha’s full salary during the loan spell, but the cost is significantly lower than previously believed.
Initial estimates suggested a wage commitment of €16 million, but the actual figure is closer to €8.5m, with a maximum of €10m if bonuses are triggered.
This makes the deal a bargain by Premier League standards, particularly for a proven defensive midfielder who was once top of Bayern’s wish list.

What This Means for Slot's Spurs
Thomas Frank has been pushing for another midfielder with defensive stability and top-flight experience – especially with the club rotating between Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, and Pape Matar Sarr last season.
Palhinha offers something different: aggression, presence and reliable positioning in front of the back four.
With his family advisors now in Munich finalising the move, the expectation is that the deal will be completed over the weekend, with the 29-year-old arriving in north London before Spurs’ final pre-season fixture.
Key Takeaways
- Medical passed – Palhinha is joining Spurs on loan from Bayern
- Tottenham paying €8.5m base salary (up to €10m with bonuses)
- €30m purchase option included for summer 2026
- Palhinha left out of Bayern squad today, final details being resolved
What’s Next for Tottenham?
With Joao Palhinha’s loan move all but complete, Spurs are now fully focused on attacking reinforcements. Thomas Frank still wants one more versatile forward, with talks progressing behind the scenes. There’s also a decision to make on Manor Solomon, who may yet leave before deadline day if Leeds return with a firm bid. Palhinha is expected to join up with the squad next week and could feature in their final pre-season fixture.
Smart business from Spurs — or too big a risk for a 29-year-old?

Physical and if he gets his form of his Fulham time back he’ll be a very good squad player for Thomas Frank and Spurs
