According to Bild, Tottenham have held concrete talks with Bayern Munich over João Palhinha. The Portugal midfielder is now open to leaving.
Tottenham are stepping up their efforts to sign João Palhinha from Bayern Munich, with fresh reports in Germany claiming the midfielder is now open to a Premier League return.
Palhinha joined Bayern from Fulham in 2024 for €51m but has struggled for minutes — featuring for less than 1,000 across 25 appearances. With Vincent Kompany favouring other midfield profiles, the 30-year-old is expected to move on.
Spurs are exploring a loan deal with a possible option to buy, although Bayern would prefer a permanent sale worth €25–30m. Palhinha’s recent shift in attitude may help move things along.
Palhinha Changes His Mind — Spurs Now Favoured
Bayern’s initial challenge was the player himself. Palhinha had been reluctant to leave after just one season in Munich — but that stance has changed.
“It’s quite possible that arch-rivals Tottenham will now win the race, and Palhinha will return to London…” — Bild (Germany)
Tottenham now lead the chase, with Bild claiming that Spurs are seen as a “top club” — one Palhinha would be happy to join. Arsenal were previously linked but never formalised their interest.
Why Spurs Are Targeting Palhinha Now
Ange Postecoglou is looking to reinforce midfield depth ahead of Tottenham’s return to the Champions League. With Yves Bissouma’s form inconsistent, Palhinha offers a ready-made solution: proven in the Premier League, physically dominant, and experienced in big-game settings.
Palhinha previously starred at Fulham and Sporting CP, earning a reputation as one of Europe’s most reliable ball-winners.
João Palhinha – Key Stats (2024/25 at Bayern Munich)
| Stat | João Palhinha |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 25 |
| Minutes Played | 973 |
| Pass Accuracy | 88% |
| Tackles per 90 | 3.4 |
| Interceptions per 90 | 1.8 |
Analyst Verdict
Tottenham’s interest in Palhinha makes tactical sense. He would bring bite and structure to the base of midfield — and fits Postecoglou’s physical, transition-heavy approach. At 30, he offers experience without demanding a long-term rebuild.
The only sticking point may be Bayern’s preference for a permanent deal. If Spurs want him on loan first, negotiations could stretch deeper into August.

What’s Next for Spurs and Palhinha?
Talks are expected to continue into early August, with Spurs pushing for a structure that suits their budget. Bayern are open to selling, but want clarity soon as they reshape their midfield.
If Spurs can agree terms before the Premier League opener, Palhinha could arrive before the club’s Champions League game in late August.
Should Tottenham push for a straight deal — or hold out for a loan move with less risk?

They need a player like him. Bissouma should have been the one but unfortunately he's to inconsistent and probably going to be sold this summer.
