Jamie Redknapp slams Tottenham’s ‘diabolical’ problem after £300m spending spree

Jamie Redknapp has launched a fierce criticism of Tottenham after their goalless start to the Premier League season continued with a 0-0 draw against Everton.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side have now gone four league matches without scoring, despite Spurs spending around £300million strengthening the squad during the summer.

While consecutive clean sheets against Nottingham Forest and Everton suggest some defensive improvement, Redknapp believes Tottenham’s attacking record is simply unacceptable.

The former Tottenham midfielder admitted he never expected goals to become such a major problem after looking at the attacking players assembled by the club.

“Out of all the things they have done spending £300 million, one of the problems I thought when they assembled this squad will not be a lack of goals,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

He highlighted Bruno Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Omar Marmoush, Savinho and Mohammed Kudus among the players he expected to provide attacking output.

“But to not score in the Premier League in six hours of football is absolutely diabolical whatever way you look at it,” Redknapp added.

Tottenham’s defence showed greater resilience against Everton, but their failure to find a breakthrough extended an increasingly worrying sequence.

De Zerbi is yet to find an attacking formula capable of producing Premier League goals despite having significant talent available.

Dominic Solanke has been leading the line, but the problem extends beyond the striker. Spurs have simply not generated enough end product from their expensive attacking unit.

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has also questioned De Zerbi’s handling of the situation.

Sutton believes the Tottenham manager needs to accept greater responsibility rather than focusing criticism on his forwards, particularly after De Zerbi blamed his strikers following the previous 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The most alarming aspect is the contrast between Tottenham’s summer investment and their attacking output.

Spurs spent heavily to reshape De Zerbi’s squad, yet four Premier League matches have passed without a single goal.

Defensive improvement provides at least one positive, but Tottenham urgently need their attacking players to start delivering if they are to avoid another difficult season.

De Zerbi must find a solution to Tottenham’s attacking problems quickly. After such significant summer investment, another prolonged winless and goalless run would inevitably increase scrutiny on both the manager and the club’s recruitment.
