Gary O’Neil confirms Ipswich want more signings amid Tammy Abraham links

Ipswich Town manager Gary O’Neil has confirmed the club are “hopefully not finished” in the transfer market as they work to strengthen their squad before the window closes.

O’Neil was asked specifically about Ipswich’s reported interest in Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham but insisted he had no fresh information on a potential deal.

Argentina international Exequiel Palacios became Town’s latest summer arrival this week, but further additions could follow before the deadline.

Abraham has emerged as a potential attacking target for Ipswich during the closing stages of the transfer window.

However, O’Neil refused to suggest that a move for the Aston Villa striker was close when questioned about the situation.

“No update as far as I’m aware,” O’Neil said.

“Sounds like you’re further along with that than I am. So nothing to report on that.”

While his response offered no indication that negotiations for Abraham are advancing, O’Neil did confirm Ipswich remain active in the market.

Town have already been busy strengthening their squad this summer, with Palacios the latest player to arrive.

“We’re hopefully not finished. We’re still trying to do some business,” he said.

“But as to who that is or what positions that will be in, then no update from me.”

O’Neil added that work is continuing behind the scenes to improve the squad, although he is now concentrating on Ipswich's upcoming Premier League fixture.

“We’re still working hard to try and improve the group. But my focus now is firmly on the game at the weekend and working with a group that I’ve got.”

O’Neil's comments leave the door open for further Ipswich additions without confirming which areas of the squad are being prioritised.

Abraham remains one name linked with the club, but the manager's comments provide no confirmation that a deal for the striker is imminent.
