Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz has reportedly revealed that he came close to returning to Brazil before deciding to remain in England with his family.

The 25-year-old has struggled for consistent playing time under Álvaro Arbeloa, raising questions about his long-term role at Craven Cottage.

Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro have previously been linked with the forward, although no new negotiations have been confirmed.

Muniz explains why he stayed at Fulham

According to ESPN Brazil journalist Mário Marra, Muniz discussed his future following Fulham's 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat against Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian started the fourth-round tie but was unable to prevent his side's elimination.

Marra reportedly raised previous interest from Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro during a conversation with the striker.

Muniz responded: "Yes, I know. I almost went, but my wife said we should stay a little longer to fulfil the dream."

His reported comments suggest a return to Brazil was considered before the couple decided to continue their life in England.

Muniz has previously spoken publicly about his wife's support during difficult periods at Fulham.

Fulham striker faces competition for minutes

Muniz enjoyed a productive spell across the 2023/24 and 2024/25 Premier League campaigns, scoring 21 goals.

However, his opportunities became more limited last season, when he managed just one league goal in 25 appearances.

The Brazilian has shown signs of improvement this term, although competition for attacking places continues to restrict his involvement.

He started against Crystal Palace on Wednesday and had a second-half effort saved by Dean Henderson.

The match ended in a 1-0 defeat after Eddie Nketiah's first-half goal.

Family could influence future transfer decision

Marra also reported that Muniz's wife is pregnant and has family connections in Belo Horizonte, where Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro are based.

Those circumstances could become relevant if the striker considers returning to Brazil.

Recent speculation has also linked him with Flamengo, although there is no confirmed approach from the Rio de Janeiro club.

Fulham have not indicated that they intend to sell Muniz.

Key Points

  • Muniz reportedly admitted he almost returned to Brazil.
  • Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro have previously been linked with him.
  • No formal transfer negotiations have been confirmed.

What's Next?

Muniz will seek more opportunities under Arbeloa as Fulham continue their Premier League campaign. Any potential move in 2027 remains speculative.
