Tottenham open €60m talks to sign Monaco striker Folarin Balogun

Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their pursuit of Folarin Balogun, with the Premier League club opening discussions over a potential €60 million move for the AS Monaco striker.

The United States international has attracted interest from several clubs throughout the summer, but Tottenham have now emerged as the first side to make a concrete move as they look to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes.

Balogun remains under contract at Monaco until 2028 following an impressive campaign in Ligue 1.

Reports from France claim Tottenham have laid the foundations for negotiations with Monaco over a deal worth around €60m.

The north London club are understood to have accelerated their interest in recent days after monitoring the striker throughout the summer.

Balogun has also attracted attention from Newcastle United and clubs in Spain, while his recent decision to join Jorge Mendes' agency has further increased speculation over his future.

No agreement has yet been reached between the clubs, but Tottenham appear to have moved into pole position for the 25-year-old.

Balogun enjoyed a productive 2025/26 campaign, establishing himself as one of Monaco's key attacking players.

The former Arsenal forward scored consistently across all competitions, helping the Ligue 1 club compete at the top end of the table.

His performances have inevitably attracted attention from the Premier League, where he previously came through Arsenal's academy before moving to France.

Balogun's potential departure could also influence Monaco's wider transfer strategy.

Earlier on Tuesday, reports suggested the club are preparing to part ways with Paul Pogba, while Balogun's possible exit would represent another major change to the squad.

However, club officials are now reportedly less inclined to sanction the sale of Lamine Camara if Balogun leaves, with the midfielder no longer viewed as a player who must be sold this summer.

That shift highlights how closely Monaco's remaining transfer business could depend on whether Tottenham complete a deal for their leading striker.

Negotiations between Tottenham and Monaco are expected to continue as the Premier League club attempt to reach an agreement on a fee.
