Ipswich Town midfielder Florentino Luis has revealed he can see himself remaining in English football for several more years as he looks to establish himself at Portman Road.

The 27-year-old initially arrived in England with Burnley after leaving Benfica before his career took him to Ipswich.

Despite only playing 111 minutes so far this season, Florentino is enjoying life in England and believes the demands of the game are helping him develop both physically and technically.

His family have also settled comfortably, leaving the midfielder increasingly convinced that England is where he wants to continue his career.

Florentino wants to stay in England

Speaking at the Portugal Football Summit, Florentino explained how positively he views his experience in English football.

“It’s been very good. The English league is the best in the world and brings together the best players,” he said.

“I’ve been pushing myself as hard as possible, to the limit, because I always have to be ready. It’s a league where I can see myself playing for more years.”

The midfielder added that his family's adaptation has made the transition considerably easier.

“My family have adapted well too, which is important for me to feel settled away from the pitch.”

For Ipswich, those comments are encouraging. Florentino clearly does not view his time in England as a short-term experience and appears determined to make a success of his latest opportunity.

Portugal call-up now a major objective

Florentino also has another significant target this season – earning his first senior Portugal appearance.

He represented his country extensively at youth level but has yet to make the step into the senior national team.

“It’s a dream and an objective I have for this season,” he explained.

“I’m working as hard as I can to make it happen, but I’m also relaxed because, when the time is right, it will happen.”

Regular football at Ipswich would strengthen his case, making increased playing time particularly important over the coming months.

Preparing for life after football

Florentino is already thinking beyond his playing career as well.

The midfielder has established a player representation company and used his appearance at the Portugal Football Summit to discuss the project.

“Our careers are very short, so I created this company with the intention of showing players that we should show more of who we are,” he said.

“When people get to know us and our stories better, they can have a different perspective on football.”

For now, however, football remains the priority. Florentino wants to establish himself at Ipswich, remain in England for the long term and use his performances to finally force his way into Portugal's senior squad.
