Ipswich Town remain interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios, although their pursuit is still at an early stage with no formal offer yet submitted.

According to Argentine outlet Bolavip, the Premier League newcomers have been in contact over the Argentina international's situation but have not opened club-to-club negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen.

RB Leipzig are also monitoring the 27-year-old, setting up a potential battle for one of Bayer's most experienced midfielders.

Ipswich exploring potential deal

The report states that Ipswich have been speaking with Palacios' representatives to better understand the midfielder's situation ahead of the new season.

However, discussions have not progressed beyond exploratory talks, with Bayer Leverkusen yet to receive an official proposal.

The same applies to RB Leipzig, who are also assessing the feasibility of a move before deciding whether to approach the Bundesliga club.

Injury-hit season but proven pedigree

Palacios endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign after a serious adductor injury disrupted much of the first half of the season.

The Argentina international was limited to 25 appearances in all competitions and registered one assist for Bayer Leverkusen.

He also featured once at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing the full 90 minutes in Argentina's 3-1 group-stage victory over Jordan before not appearing again during the tournament.

Despite the injury setbacks, Palacios is reportedly content at Bayer Leverkusen after more than six years with the club, although he is prepared to consider his options if the right opportunity arises.

Leipzig could hold advantage

Bolavip reports that RB Leipzig's interest has been driven by new head coach Martín Demichelis, who has personally identified Palacios as one of his preferred midfield targets.

That managerial backing could strengthen Leipzig's position if both clubs eventually decide to test Bayer Leverkusen's resolve with formal offers.

Ipswich, meanwhile, remain firmly in the race but are currently focused on gathering information before deciding whether to advance their interest.
