Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage is facing criticism in Chile over his limited use of Darío Osorio, with the winger remaining on the bench throughout Sunday's humiliating 5-0 defeat to Brighton.

The Chile international joined Palace from FC Midtjylland on deadline day in a loan deal reportedly including a mandatory purchase obligation worth €25 million.

However, Osorio has struggled for Premier League opportunities, prompting frustration among observers in his homeland.

Chilean commentator criticises Osorio's lack of minutes

Osorio arrived at Selhurst Park after recording two goals and three assists in 13 appearances for Midtjylland earlier this season.

Since joining Palace, he has played just one minute in the Premier League, against Fulham, although he started an EFL Cup victory over Middlesbrough and has featured in Europe.

His absence from the pitch during Palace's heavy defeat at Brighton attracted particular criticism from Chilean commentator Juan Manuel Pons.

Speaking to ESPN, in comments relayed by Redgol, Pons said: "Paying €25m to not even give a player five minutes on a small team like [Crystal] Palace is unbelievable. They don’t even play Osorio, look at the poor guy’s face."

The remarks reflect growing concern in Chile that the 22-year-old is not being given sufficient opportunities to establish himself in English football.

Why is Pierre Sage not selecting Osorio?

Reports from Chile previously suggested physical discomfort had contributed to Osorio's limited involvement.

However, the winger subsequently started three matches for his national team, raising further questions about his lack of opportunities at Palace.

Sage omitted Osorio from the squad for the October 11 victory over Nottingham Forest, reportedly because he returned late from international duty.

The Palace manager then introduced him for the final 15 minutes of Thursday's Europa League defeat to Lyon before leaving him unused against Brighton.

According to Redgol, there is growing concern that Sage does not currently see Osorio as part of his preferred attacking options.

There has been no confirmed indication that Palace intend to end the arrangement, but the winger's continued absence from Premier League action is attracting increasing attention.
