Crystal Palace are reportedly considering former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane as a potential replacement for Pierre Sage following the club's disappointing start to the Premier League season.

The Eagles sit 17th after losing five of their opening eight league matches, with Sunday's 2–0 home defeat to Newcastle United increasing pressure on the French manager.

According to talkSPORT, Palace chairman Steve Parish is assessing potential alternatives, although no decision has been made to dismiss Sage.

Robbie Keane among Crystal Palace managerial candidates

Keane has reportedly emerged as an option for Palace after previously attracting interest from the South London club.

The 46-year-old has been available since leaving Hungarian champions FerencvĂ¡ros in May.

He averaged 2.07 points per game across 82 matches in Hungary, having previously enjoyed a successful spell in charge of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Despite those achievements, Keane has yet to manage in the Premier League.

His extensive experience as a player, particularly during his years at Tottenham, could nevertheless appeal to Palace's hierarchy.

However, he is not the only name under consideration.

Former Burnley manager Sean Dyche, ex-Tottenham boss Thomas Frank and VĂtor Pereira have also been linked with the position.

There is currently no confirmation that Palace have approached any of the candidates.

Sage under pressure after Newcastle defeat

Palace's latest setback came against Newcastle at Selhurst Park, where second-half goals from William Osula and Harvey Barnes secured a 2–0 away victory.

The defeat followed a 5–0 loss to Brighton and extended Palace's winless Premier League run to four matches.

Defensive performances have become a major concern.

The Eagles have conceded 19 goals in eight league matches, the worst record in the division.

Sage arrived in the summer after guiding Lens to second place in Ligue 1, but his approach has yet to produce consistent results in England.

European commitments have added to the challenge, while concerns have reportedly emerged about how quickly the squad has adapted to his methods.

Palace yet to decide on managerial change

Despite the speculation, Sage insists he retains the support of the club's leadership.

The Frenchman has confirmed that he remains in regular contact with Parish but says his future has not been discussed.

He also attributed the defeat to Newcastle partly to a loss of concentration after half-time.

For now, Sage remains in charge, although further poor results could increase the pressure on Palace to consider a change.

Key Points

  • Crystal Palace are reportedly considering Robbie Keane as a possible replacement for Sage.

  • The Eagles have conceded a league-high 19 goals.
  • Sean Dyche, Thomas Frank and VĂtor Pereira are also linked with the job.

What's Next?

Sage must find a response to Palace's recent defeats and address the team's defensive problems.

Keane and the other reported candidates could become more serious options if Parish decides a managerial change is necessary.
