Newcastle, Aston Villa and Everton snubbed by €100m-rated Kofane

Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Everton all reportedly failed with major summer moves for Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane.

The 20-year-old attracted serious Premier League interest during the transfer window, with all three clubs prepared to offer around €50million for his services.

However, according to Bild, Kofane rejected the approaches and chose to remain with Bayer Leverkusen.

Newcastle were among the first clubs to make a serious move for Kofane during the summer.

Everton followed with a concrete proposal as David Moyes looked to strengthen his attack, while Aston Villa also entered the race.

Despite the financial power on offer from England, Kofane decided against leaving Germany.

That decision has only strengthened Leverkusen’s belief that the Cameroon international can become one of their most valuable assets.

Kofane only joined Leverkusen from Albacete in July 2025.

The original plan had been to send him out on loan, but an impressive pre-season convinced the Bundesliga club to keep him in the first-team squad.

That gamble paid off.

Kofane finished his debut campaign with seven goals and nine assists in 44 appearances, establishing himself as an important member of the squad.

His performances, combined with his decision to reject Premier League interest, have now encouraged Leverkusen to accelerate talks over a new contract.

Kofane is currently under contract until 2029, but Leverkusen are working on extending that agreement until 2031.

Talks with representatives Eric Depolo and Erkan Alkan have reportedly been ongoing for several weeks and an agreement is now close.

The new deal is expected to significantly increase Kofane’s salary, reportedly to around €4m per year, while no release clause will be included.

That gives Leverkusen considerable control over his future.

The Bundesliga club reportedly believe Kofane has the potential to become their next €100m player.

For Newcastle, Aston Villa and Everton, that means the opportunity they had this summer may already have become significantly more expensive.

If Kofane continues developing at his current rate, any future Premier League attempt is likely to require substantially more than the €50m figures discussed this summer.

Kofane is now expected to sign a new long-term contract with Bayer Leverkusen, which would strengthen the club’s position considerably ahead of any future transfer interest.

For Newcastle, Aston Villa and Everton, a second attempt would likely be far more expensive than the proposals discussed this summer.

The key question is whether Kofane can take another major step in his development this season. If his numbers continue to improve, Leverkusen’s €100m expectations may become increasingly realistic.
