Chelsea midfielder Jordan Henderson has come under renewed criticism from Dutch pundits despite scoring twice and providing an assist in the Blues' impressive 5-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth.

The 36-year-old has enjoyed a strong start at Stamford Bridge, but his recent performances have done little to convince some of his former critics in the Netherlands.

Dutch pundits question Henderson's Chelsea success

Henderson joined Chelsea during the summer after returning to English football with Brentford following his spell at Ajax.

The former Liverpool captain made 57 appearances for the Amsterdam club after arriving from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in 2024.

His performances attracted criticism in the Dutch media, with several pundits questioning his influence.

Speaking on television programme Vandaag Inside, Johan Derksen admitted he had never expected Henderson to establish himself at Chelsea.

Derksen described the midfielder as an ordinary player who had made little impression during his time in the Netherlands.

He also expressed surprise that Henderson was now starting for Chelsea and scoring impressive goals in the Premier League.

Valentijn Driessen dismisses Henderson's Bournemouth goals

Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen was even more dismissive of Henderson's performance against Bournemouth.

Driessen questioned whether two goals were enough to change perceptions of the midfielder, suggesting his finishing had been fortunate.

He acknowledged that Henderson must be contributing something to Chelsea but argued that his role was primarily to support the team's more talented players.

René van der Gijp offered a more positive assessment.

He highlighted Henderson's reputation in England as an exemplary professional, suggesting that his experience, attitude and leadership remain highly valued.

Despite the criticism, Henderson's two goals and assist against Bournemouth provided another indication of his growing importance under Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso.
