Chelsea suffer Alex Scott transfer blow as Bournemouth make final decision

Chelsea’s hopes of signing Alex Scott before the transfer deadline appear to be over after Bournemouth insisted there will be no further arrivals or departures at the club.

The Blues have maintained a long-standing interest in Scott and reportedly saw a £64million bid rejected last month.

Chelsea had identified the 23-year-old alongside Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as potential replacements should Enzo Fernandez complete a move to Manchester City.

However, Bournemouth have now made it clear that Scott will not be leaving the Vitality Stadium before Tuesday’s deadline.

Bournemouth president of football operations Tiago Pinto delivered an emphatic update on Friday following the Europa League draw.

“We are done. No one is leaving. No one is coming. We are done,” Pinto said.

That position effectively ends Chelsea's hopes of reopening negotiations for Scott during the final days of the window.

The midfielder had previously rejected a new Bournemouth contract earlier in the summer, potentially encouraging interested clubs to test the Cherries' resolve.

But Bournemouth have consistently maintained that they intend to keep him.

Manager Marco Rose was equally decisive when recently asked whether Scott would remain at the club.

“I’m sure,” Rose said. “Forget 100 per cent, is there a 120%? That’s how sure I am.”

Chelsea's midfield plans are closely connected to Fernandez's uncertain future.

Manchester City are pushing to sign the Argentina international, potentially reuniting him with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

If Fernandez leaves, Chelsea have been considering Scott and Monaco's Lamine Camara as possible replacements.

Bournemouth's stance means Camara could now become a more realistic option if Xabi Alonso decides another midfielder is required.

With Deadline Day approaching, Chelsea have little time to identify alternatives should Fernandez depart.

Speculation around Fernandez intensified after he was omitted from Chelsea's squad for Thursday's 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Luton Town.

Alonso subsequently suggested that desire and preparation were important considerations when selecting his squad.

“We need to take everything into consideration — players that are in a good moment, players that are not feeling that energy to play,” Alonso said.

“For me, it is very important that they feel this desire to play and to have good preparation.”

Those comments will only increase scrutiny surrounding Fernandez as Manchester City continue to be linked with a late move.

Chelsea will have to look elsewhere if Fernandez leaves, with Bournemouth making their position on Scott emphatically clear.

That could increase the importance of Camara during the final days of the window, while Manchester City's pursuit of Fernandez remains central to whether Chelsea need another midfielder at all.
