Aston Villa close in on Ibrahim Mbaye after agreeing £47m PSG deal

Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye after agreeing a deal worth around £47million.

The 18-year-old Senegal international is now on course to become Villa's ninth signing of a hugely active summer transfer window.

Mbaye has been a long-term target for Unai Emery and is expected to become another major part of Villa's revamped attack, with Nicolas Jackson also completing his move from Chelsea on Friday.

Villa have now reached an agreement with PSG for Mbaye, leaving the transfer close to completion.

The teenager will become the second winger added to Emery's squad this summer following the arrival of Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea.

Mbaye's impending arrival also comes after Villa held negotiations with AC Milan for Rafael Leão.

The Portuguese attacker had been another major target, but Villa faced significant competition from Galatasaray, who had already reached an agreement with Milan.

Villa have now moved closer to completing the Mbaye deal as Emery continues reshaping his attacking options.

Mbaye is not the only forward arriving at Villa Park.

Nicolas Jackson completed his transfer from Chelsea on Friday for an initial £47.5m, giving Emery a new central striker following Ollie Watkins' departure.

Jackson could make his Villa debut against defending Premier League champions Arsenal on Monday.

Free-agent midfielder Leon Goretzka could also make his first appearance in the same fixture as Villa prepare for a major early-season test.

Jackson's arrival coincides with Watkins completing a move to Al-Hilal worth more than £50m.

The England international and his representatives travelled to Saudi Arabia on Friday morning to finalise the transfer, ending his spell at Villa Park.

The changes mean Emery's attacking department is undergoing a significant transformation, with Jackson, Garnacho and potentially Mbaye among his new options.

Villa's business is not finished either.

Villa remain in the market for a defender before Tuesday's transfer deadline following Ezri Konsa's move to Arsenal last week.

Finding a replacement for Konsa is now another priority as the club attempt to complete their squad.

With the £47m Mbaye agreement in place, however, another significant piece of Emery's attacking rebuild appears close to completion.

Villa will look to finalise Mbaye's transfer before turning further attention towards strengthening their defence.

Jackson and Goretzka could make their debuts against Arsenal on Monday, while Mbaye's expected arrival would add another exciting option to an attack that has been extensively rebuilt during the summer.
