Arsenal eye Bruno Guimaraes transfer as Mikel Arteta plans midfield overhaul

Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes as Mikel Arteta continues plans to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season.

According to reports, the Gunners have made enquiries over the Brazil international's availability and opened initial discussions with his representatives. Newcastle have made it clear they do not want to sell one of their key players, but that has not stopped Arsenal from exploring the possibility of a deal.

The north London club are expected to be active during the remainder of the summer transfer window, and adding another high-quality central midfielder remains one of their priorities.

Arteta has consistently favoured signing players who already understand the demands of the Premier League, reducing the time needed to adapt.

Guimaraes fits that profile perfectly after establishing himself as one of the league's standout midfielders since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022.

Despite missing six Premier League matches with a hamstring injury last season, the Brazilian has been remarkably consistent over the past four years and remains one of Newcastle's most influential players.

However, it remains uncertain whether Arsenal will meet Newcastle's likely asking price.

Although Guimaraes has just two years remaining on his contract, Newcastle have no intention of sanctioning his departure.
