Bernd Leno drops Fulham future hint as Premier League record becomes target

Bernd Leno has suggested he would be happy to extend his Fulham stay as the goalkeeper approaches the final year of his contract at Craven Cottage.

The 34-year-old has remained Fulham’s first-choice goalkeeper since Álvaro Arbeloa replaced Marco Silva during the summer and has now made 160 appearances for the club since arriving from Arsenal in 2022.

Leno’s current contract expires in 2027, although Fulham hold an option to extend the agreement for another season.

Speaking to Sky Deutschland, Leno made clear that he remains happy with his life in England and has no immediate concerns about his future.

“I love the Premier League. I love it here, I love London, and I feel right at home now,” Leno said.

“That’s why I’m very relaxed about the situation. We’ll see if it continues for at least another year. We still have big plans with the club.”

Asked whether concrete discussions with Fulham had already taken place, Leno refused to look too far ahead.

“In football, you never know what’s going to happen,” he added. “That’s why I don’t worry about it too much.”

His comments suggest there is no urgency from the goalkeeper to pursue an exit, particularly while he continues to receive regular football under Arbeloa.

Leno also has an individual target that could encourage him to remain in England.

Former Chelsea and Leicester City defender Robert Huth currently holds the record for the most Premier League appearances by a German player with 332.

Leno has made 255 Premier League appearances across his spells with Arsenal and Fulham, leaving him 77 short of Huth’s total.

“If I play for another year or two, it might happen,” Leno said. “But overall, I’m very positive and relaxed about my future.”

Reaching that milestone would require Leno to remain in the Premier League beyond this season, giving Fulham another reason to believe extending their relationship could suit both parties.

Fulham have time to decide whether to activate their option and extend Leno’s contract through to 2028.

For Leno, remaining at Craven Cottage would provide regular football while keeping alive his ambition of becoming the German with the most Premier League appearances.
