João Pedro has explained why he decided to extend his Chelsea contract until 2034, insisting he remains convinced by the direction of the club under Xabi Alonso.
The Brazilian enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign following his £60million move from Brighton, scoring 20 goals across all competitions and being voted Chelsea’s Player of the Season by supporters.
His performances have since earned him the No.9 shirt and a new long-term deal, with Pedro using LinkedIn to explain why staying at Stamford Bridge was the right decision for him.
Pedro believes Chelsea remains the right environment
Pedro highlighted winning the FIFA Club World Cup, his individual performances and becoming Chelsea's No.9 among the defining moments of his first season.
However, the forward stressed that his decision was based more on Chelsea's future than what he has already achieved.
“Progress doesn't always mean choosing something different,” Pedro wrote.
“Sometimes it's recognising when you're surrounded by the right people, still learning, still being challenged and still excited by what you're building together.”
The 24-year-old added that he believes in where Chelsea are heading and wants to remain part of the project.
“I believe in where this club is going, I believe in the people around me and I want to be part of what comes next.”
Injury interrupts impressive Chelsea start
Pedro's commitment comes while he is recovering from a suspected knee injury which ruled him out of Chelsea's 3-0 defeat at Brentford.
The problem also forced him to withdraw from Brazil's squad for the international break.
Reports from ESPN Brazil have suggested Pedro could require around three weeks to recover. If that timeline proves accurate, he would have a chance of returning when Chelsea host Bournemouth on October 10.
His absence is significant for Alonso after Pedro started the season strongly alongside Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers. The trio have combined for 10 goals and 10 assists in 19 appearances this season.
Chelsea will therefore hope their new No.9 can quickly resume the form that convinced the club to secure his future until 2034.
