Atalanta’s Ederson signs new contract after Manchester United transfer collapses

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has committed his future to the Serie A club by signing a new contract, bringing an end to speculation surrounding a move to Manchester United.

The Brazilian international had been expected to join the Red Devils earlier this summer after the clubs agreed a £35 million transfer fee, but the deal ultimately collapsed following concerns raised during his medical.

Manchester United reached an agreement with Atalanta on 2 June for the 27-year-old midfielder.

However, the transfer was delayed after Ederson received a late call-up to Brazil's World Cup squad following Wesley's injury.

After Brazil's elimination in the last 16, Ederson travelled to England to complete further medical examinations after initial tests identified an area requiring additional investigation.

Despite consultations with specialists, Manchester United decided not to proceed with the transfer.

While there had been suggestions the deal could be revived later in the transfer window under different terms, Ederson has now committed his future to Atalanta instead.

Atalanta confirmed the Brazilian has signed a new contract, although the club have not disclosed the length of the agreement.

Michael Carrick's side have completed the signings of Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and goalkeeper Karl Darlow, shifting their focus after missing out on Ederson.
