Manchester United have agreed a £50m deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea, with the midfielder now set to undergo a medical.
Football Place understands United will pay an initial £48m plus £2m in performance-related add-ons, which are considered easily achievable.
A medical is now being arranged for the 22-year-old as he prepares to complete his move to Old Trafford and become a major part of United’s midfield rebuild.
Andrey Santos set for Manchester United medical
Santos was highly regarded at Chelsea, but his desire for regular first-team football opened the door to a summer departure.
The Brazilian faced another season competing with Moises Caicedo, whose new contract strengthened his position at Stamford Bridge. Santos was therefore expected to remain an understudy rather than become a guaranteed starter.
Chelsea wanted to keep the midfielder and did not actively push him towards the exit. However, they were prepared to sell if their valuation was met.
United have now reached that level with a package worth £50m.
The move gives Santos an opportunity to secure the regular Premier League football he was seeking, while Chelsea receive a significant fee for a player who was not considered untouchable.
Man Utd midfield rebuild gathers pace
Manchester United have made midfield recruitment a major priority this summer after missing out on Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham in an £85m deal.
Santos is now set to become part of a major overhaul, with Atalanta midfielder Ederson also expected to arrive.
It remains unclear whether United will add a third midfielder before the transfer window closes. Ayyoub Bouaddi is among the players linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha have also been mentioned, but both would be significantly more expensive. Madrid reportedly want at least £85m for Tchouameni, while Dortmund value Nmecha at around £103m.
That makes the £50m agreement for Santos a more achievable deal as United reshape their midfield options.
