Bruno Guimaraes wants Arsenal move as £60m bid prepared

Bruno Guimaraes has reportedly told Newcastle United that he wants to leave the club and join Arsenal this summer.

The 28-year-old has returned from representing Brazil at the World Cup and is now said to have made his transfer preference clear after Newcastle failed to qualify for European football.

According to David Ornstein, Arsenal are preparing a formal offer worth up to £60m for the midfielder. No direct club-to-club negotiations have taken place yet, but the Gunners are now expected to push forward.

Arsenal reportedly made a verbal enquiry worth around £55m earlier this summer, but Newcastle rejected that approach.

The situation has now changed significantly because Guimaraes is said to have informed Newcastle that he wants to leave.

Arsenal are his preferred destination, with Mikel Arteta looking to strengthen a squad that won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final last season.

Despite the player’s wishes, Newcastle maintain that their captain is not for sale and insist they will not entertain offers during the current transfer window.

Losing Guimaraes would be a significant setback for Eddie Howe after an already dramatic summer at St James’ Park.

However, replacing Guimaraes would present another major challenge. The Brazilian remains Newcastle’s captain and one of their most influential players.

For Arsenal, his arrival would add further quality alongside Declan Rice and give Arteta another elite option in midfield as the club targets consecutive Premier League titles.

Arsenal are expected to decide when to submit their formal offer, while Newcastle must determine whether their public no-sale stance can be maintained after Guimaraes reportedly asked to leave.
