Andre Onana is set to leave Manchester United for a second consecutive season after agreeing another loan move to Trabzonspor.

According to reports, the Cameroon international has signed the necessary paperwork ahead of a season-long return to the Turkish club, with Manchester United and Trabzonspor finalising a deal worth around £1.3 million.

Trabzonspor agree new loan deal

The agreement will see Trabzonspor pay a loan fee of approximately £1.3 million while covering the majority of Onana's wages during the 2026/27 campaign.

Importantly, the deal does not include an option to buy, meaning the 30-year-old remains under contract at Old Trafford beyond next summer.

Manchester United had explored the possibility of a permanent transfer but have instead opted for another temporary move, ensuring the goalkeeper's reported £120,000-a-week salary is largely removed from the club's wage bill.

His performances helped Trabzonspor lift the Turkish Cup, adding another honour to a career that already includes league titles with Ajax, domestic silverware in Italy with Inter Milan and an FA Cup winners’ medal with Manchester United.

Lammens now firmly established as United’s No.1

Onana’s departure further underlines Manchester United’s faith in Senne Lammens.

The Belgian goalkeeper enjoyed an impressive first Premier League season after arriving from Royal Antwerp, establishing himself as Michael Carrick’s first-choice goalkeeper.

His performances also earned him a place in Belgium’s World Cup squad, reinforcing United’s confidence that they have secured their long-term first-choice goalkeeper.

Lammens’ emergence has significantly altered the club’s planning. With the Belgian firmly established as the first-choice option, opportunities for Onana to rebuild his Old Trafford career became increasingly limited.

However, because there is no purchase option in the agreement, United will still face another decision regarding Onana’s future when the loan expires next summer.

What's next?

Onana will report to Trabzonspor ahead of the new Turkish season once the final administrative details are completed.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will welcome Lammens back after Belgium's World Cup campaign as Michael Carrick prepares his squad for a season that includes a return to UEFA Champions League football.

Has Manchester United made the right decision by backing Senne Lammens as their long-term No.1, or should Andre Onana have been given another chance at Old Trafford?
