Crystal Palace are reportedly prepared to consider offers for Eddie Nketiah this summer after the former Arsenal striker slipped down the attacking pecking order at Selhurst Park.

Nketiah joined the Eagles in a £25 million move in 2024, but injuries and inconsistent form have prevented him from establishing himself as a regular starter. Fresh reports now suggest Palace would not stand in his way if a suitable offer arrives during the transfer window.

Palace willing to listen to offers

According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider, Crystal Palace have doubts over Nketiah’s long-term future under new head coach Pierre Sage.

Brown believes the club no longer see the 27-year-old as a key part of their plans.

“I’ve had my doubts about Eddie Nketiah, I don’t think he’s good enough, and from what I’m told, Palace don’t either.

“He hasn’t had anywhere near the desired impact at Palace, he hasn’t scored an abundance of goals, and when he’s played he struggles to impact the game.”

While Palace would prefer to recover as much of their original investment as possible, they are reportedly prepared to sanction a sale if an acceptable proposal is made.

Injuries and competition have limited opportunities

Nketiah's time in south London has been disrupted by repeated injury problems, making it difficult to build momentum after his move from Arsenal.

The striker has scored 11 goals in 56 appearances for Crystal Palace, but strong performances from Jean-Philippe Mateta and the arrival of Jørgen Strand Larsen have pushed him further down the pecking order.

Brown believes the competition for places leaves Nketiah facing an uphill battle.

"At the moment, he's their third-choice striker and it's going to be hard for him to work his way into the manager's plans, even if he has a good pre-season."

Mateta's future could influence Palace's plans

Nketiah's situation comes at a time when uncertainty also surrounds Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The French striker has been linked with a move away after entering the final year of his contract, although Palace are understood to value him highly following another productive campaign.

Even if Mateta departs, the arrival of Strand Larsen means Palace may still feel sufficiently covered in the centre-forward position, potentially making Nketiah expendable.

That said, much will depend on the offers received and whether Palace believe they can reinvest effectively in other areas of the squad.

Key points

  • Crystal Palace are reportedly open to selling Eddie Nketiah this summer.
  • The striker has scored 11 goals in 56 appearances since joining from Arsenal.
  • Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jørgen Strand Larsen are currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
  • Palace would consider a sale if a suitable offer arrives.
  • Mateta's own future could influence the club's attacking plans.

What's next?

Nketiah is expected to report for pre-season under Pierre Sage, where he will have the chance to prove he deserves a place in the squad.

At the same time, Crystal Palace are likely to assess offers for both Nketiah and Mateta before deciding how they want their attacking options to look ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Should Crystal Palace give Eddie Nketiah another chance, or is it time for both player and club to move on?
