Manchester United have reached an agreement for Altay Bayindir to join Celta Vigo on loan, with the Turkish goalkeeper expected to complete his move to Spain in the coming days.

According to Faro de Vigo, Celta Vigo are aiming to finalise the deal before departing for their pre-season tour of Italy next week. The La Liga side face Sassuolo on Wednesday and Napoli on Saturday, with hopes Bayindir will be available to feature in both fixtures.

The 28-year-old has been identified as the goalkeeper requested by manager Claudio Giráldez, who wants greater competition between the posts alongside Andrei Radu.

Loan deal offers little immediate return

Bayindir is set to join Celta Vigo on a season-long loan, but the financial structure of the agreement appears unlikely to generate an immediate transfer fee for Manchester United.

With the goalkeeper's current contract due to expire in June 2027, the report claims United are expected to activate the one-year extension option included in his deal. That would allow the club to retain his registration until 2028 and potentially negotiate a permanent transfer next summer.

However, Faro de Vigo suggests Celta would struggle to afford a permanent deal unless Bayindir significantly reduced his salary, even if he became a free agent in 2027.

Meanwhile, AS reports the goalkeeper is expected to travel for his medical either today or tomorrow ahead of completing the move.

Bayindir struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford

Bayindir joined Manchester United in 2023 but never managed to cement a regular place in the first team.

Despite periods in which André Onana came under scrutiny, Bayindir was rarely trusted as the club's first-choice goalkeeper under Ruben Amorim.

His prospects became even more limited following the arrival of Senne Lemmens, while the free-transfer signing of Karl Darlow this summer further reduced his chances of regular football at Old Trafford.

A move to Celta Vigo now offers the Turkey international the opportunity for consistent first-team football after a frustrating spell in Manchester.

Key Points

  • Manchester United have agreed a loan deal for Altay Bayindir to join Celta Vigo.
  • The Spanish club hope to complete the transfer before next week's pre-season tour of Italy.
  • United are expected to activate the goalkeeper's one-year contract extension.
  • Celta Vigo are unlikely to afford a permanent transfer under the current financial conditions.
  • Bayindir is expected to undergo his medical in the coming days.

What's next?

If the final paperwork is completed on schedule, Bayindir will travel to Spain for his medical before joining Celta Vigo's pre-season tour. Manchester United are expected to retain the option of selling the goalkeeper next summer by extending his contract for an additional year.
