Alan Shearer sends warning after Lewis Hall signs Newcastle contract

Alan Shearer has welcomed Lewis Hall’s new long-term contract at Newcastle United, but the Magpies legend remains cautious after seeing several major players leave the club in recent times.

Hall has signed a new five-year deal following summer interest from Manchester United. The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start under Matthias Jaissle and has now been rewarded with improved terms.

For Newcastle, securing one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated young left-backs represents an important piece of business.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer described the announcement as “great news” and believes Newcastle possess one of the best players in the league in Hall’s position.

“There is always going to be interest from other clubs in top players and he's a top left-back,” Shearer said.

“There’s not many good left-backs out there and Newcastle have got a really good one, so I understand why other clubs were sniffing around him.”

However, Newcastle’s recent £375million exodus appears to have left Shearer wary about placing too much importance on long-term contracts.

“The only issue is that I wonder how important his contract will be if he wants to leave one day,” he added.

For now, there is little indication Hall is considering an exit. Shearer believes keeping him fit could establish the defender among the Premier League’s elite.

“If he stays fit, he's one of, if not the best, left-back in the league.”

Hall described signing his new contract as a “really proud moment” and highlighted his connection with Newcastle and its supporters.

The England international also referenced his family’s connection with the club and believes Newcastle can achieve significant success under Jaissle.

“It's a really good place to be,” Hall said. “It's really pleasing with how we've started the season, especially with the new Gaffer and coaching staff coming in, and I think we can go on to achieve really big things.”

After Manchester United showed interest during the summer, Newcastle have now secured Hall’s immediate future and ensured one of Jaissle’s key players remains central to the club’s plans.

Hall will look to continue his impressive start to the season and push his way back into the England setup. For Newcastle, the priority will be ensuring their new contract helps keep another prized asset at St James’ Park for the long term.
