Crystal Palace have received encouraging news after fears Yeremy Pino had suffered a fractured collarbone during Spain's World Cup clash with Uruguay were ruled out.

The winger underwent medical examinations after leaving the pitch wearing a sling, prompting concerns his tournament could be over. However, fresh reports from Spain indicate the injury is less severe than initially feared, although Pino is not yet training with the rest of Luis de la Fuente's squad.

His availability for the remainder of the World Cup remains uncertain.

Spain confirm positive Yeremy Pino injury update

Initial fears centred on a possible broken collarbone after Pino landed awkwardly during Spain's victory over Uruguay.

The 23-year-old appeared to be in considerable discomfort, with Spain manager Luis de la Fuente admitting immediately after the match that the outlook was worrying.

"Unfortunately, it may be a collarbone injury. We'll have to wait and see – he's due to undergo tests tomorrow."

The Spain boss also praised Pino for remaining on the pitch despite the pain.

"He's in a lot of pain, and the effort he's put in to see out the end of the match has been tremendous; it's been a heroic performance."

Fortunately for both Spain and Crystal Palace, further examinations have ruled out a fracture.

Crystal Palace winger still training separately

According to El Día, Pino has instead been diagnosed with an acromioclavicular sprain, commonly known as a separated shoulder.

The injury affects the ligaments connecting the collarbone to the shoulder blade and generally carries a shorter recovery period than a fracture, depending on its severity.

While the diagnosis is positive compared to initial fears, Pino has not yet returned to full training.

Instead, the winger has been completing individual recovery sessions, including work on a stationary exercise bike, while his teammates continue preparations for the knockout stages.

Spain face decision ahead of knockout rounds

Pino's availability will ultimately depend on how quickly he responds to treatment over the coming days.

Spain remain among the favourites to win the World Cup and have strong attacking options available, reducing any pressure to accelerate the Crystal Palace player's return.

Medical staff are expected to continue monitoring his progress before making a decision on whether he can feature later in the tournament.

Key Points

  • Yeremy Pino has avoided a fractured collarbone.

What's next?

Spain's medical staff will continue assessing Pino's recovery before deciding whether he can return during the knockout stages. Crystal Palace will also be closely monitoring his rehabilitation ahead of pre-season, with the latest diagnosis offering optimism despite the winger not yet returning to full training.

Should Spain take any risks with Yeremy Pino, or focus on ensuring he is fully fit before he returns?
