West Ham United midfielder Tomáš Souček has taken the first step towards life beyond his playing career after accepting a new role as technical director at Czech fourth-tier club SK Rapid Psáry.
The Czech international will combine the position with his playing commitments in England, where he remains under contract with West Ham for the final year of his current deal.
The appointment comes as speculation continues to surround Souček's long-term future at the London club.
Souček joins ambitious Czech project
SK Rapid Psáry officially confirmed Souček's appointment, with the experienced midfielder set to oversee several strategic projects aimed at the club's long-term development.
His responsibilities will include helping modernise the club's infrastructure, improving facilities and contributing to broader sporting development alongside the club's technical leadership team.
Because he remains contracted to West Ham, Souček will initially carry out much of the role remotely from England.
Speaking after the announcement, the 31-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
"I am happy to be part of the Rapid Psáry project. The club have a clear vision and a great desire to move forward."
He added that he hopes to help create an environment that supports both player development and the club's future growth.
Six months of negotiations
Rapid Psáry sporting director Jiří Sodoma revealed that discussions over Souček's appointment had been ongoing since the winter.
The pair have known each other since childhood, and Sodoma believes the West Ham midfielder's experience at the highest level will prove invaluable.
"Negotiations took place for half a year."
Sodoma added that Souček's Premier League and international experience would help drive the club's long-term ambitions despite his continued playing career.
Interestingly, Souček has never represented Rapid Psáry as a player.
Uncertainty over West Ham future
While Souček has begun planning for the future off the pitch, questions remain over where he will continue his playing career.
The midfielder is entering the final year of his contract at West Ham, with no agreement yet reached over an extension.
Earlier this summer, former club Slavia Prague publicly opened the door to a potential return, although Souček declined to discuss his future before representing the Czech Republic at the World Cup.
Whether he remains with West Ham in the Championship or seeks a new challenge before the transfer window closes remains unclear.
