Manchester City’s January signing Vitor Reis has asked to leave the club on loan, according to Brazilian journalist André Hernan. The 19-year-old defender is eager to secure more minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup, and feels a temporary move is needed.
Reis joined City from Palmeiras in a €37m move earlier this year, arriving with major expectations after interest from the likes of Real Madrid. But since his transfer, he’s featured just four times for the first team — a total of 226 minutes.
Why Vitor Reis Wants Out — For Now
With competition at centre-back fierce — and World Cup places on the line — Reis is prioritising regular football. According to Hernan, offers have already come in from Porto and Bayer Leverkusen, two clubs who could offer both top-level minutes and continental exposure.
“Reis wants to be part of Brazil’s 2026 World Cup plans. For that, he knows he needs to play more often,” said André Hernan. — UOL / YouTube
Manchester City are reportedly keen to keep him, but will now meet with the player and his representatives to find a resolution.
What’s Man City’s Stance on Reis?
Despite the request, City still view Vitor Reis as a long-term prospect. The club is open to discussing a loan deal but only if it guarantees high-level development.
The belief at the Etihad is that Reis could follow a similar trajectory to Yan Couto or Savio, who impressed while out on loan before returning to the first team setup.
Analyst Verdict: Letting Him Go Could Be Smart — If Managed Right
There’s no shame in a €37m teenage signing needing a bit more time. What’s clear is Vitor Reis is too talented to sit on the bench. His ball-playing ability, athleticism and positional reading all stand out — but he needs a stage to show it weekly.
A loan to Porto or Leverkusen would give him European minutes and real tactical education. For City, this is about smart asset management. Holding onto him too tightly now might stunt his growth.
Let him shine elsewhere — and bring back the finished product.

What’s Next for Vitor Reis
Manchester City will hold talks with Vitor Reis and his representatives later this week to discuss the loan request. Porto and Bayer Leverkusen have both expressed interest, but no formal offer has been submitted yet. City are open to a temporary move but only if the chosen club can guarantee regular first-team football. The expectation is that any deal would not include a buy option, as City still see Reis as part of their long-term plans.
Should Man City let Vitor Reis leave — or is it too soon to loan out a €37m signing?

I've totally forgot that they bought him... He won't make any minutes this season, that CB position is very well stacked at City. Best thing is to move on loan and get minutes.
