Inter Milan remain confident over Curtis Jones deal as Liverpool face contract dilemma

Inter Milan remain determined to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and are reportedly planning a renewed approach later in the transfer window, believing time could work in their favour.

The Serie A champions have admired the England international for several months but have so far failed to reach an agreement with Liverpool over a transfer fee.

With Jones entering the final year of his contract, Inter are increasingly confident they can negotiate a more favourable deal before the window closes.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta held talks with the club's recruitment team before the squad departed for their pre-season tour of Asia, with Jones once again high on the agenda.

Rather than rushing into another offer, the Italian club intend to wait until the closing stages of the transfer window.

Liverpool are currently demanding around €40 million for the midfielder, a valuation Inter consider excessive given his contract expires in 2027.

The Nerazzurri's latest proposal is understood to be worth €25 million, and they believe Liverpool's asking price could fall as the deadline approaches.

The report also claims Jones has done "everything possible" to help facilitate the move.

The midfielder is said to be keen on joining Inter, with the opportunity to play alongside fellow England international John Stones reportedly adding further appeal to a switch to San Siro.

Inter's public interest in Jones has already been confirmed by sporting director Piero Ausilio, although he admitted earlier this summer that the financial demands of the deal remained a significant obstacle.

Despite that, the Serie A champions have not abandoned their pursuit.

Inter's hopes could also depend on outgoing transfers of their own.

Midfielder Davide Frattesi is reportedly no longer part of Cristian Chivu's long-term plans, and his departure would free up both wages and transfer funds for a renewed push to sign Jones.

From Liverpool's perspective, the coming weeks could prove decisive.

If the Reds are unable to convince Jones to extend his contract beyond 2027, they may have to consider whether cashing in this summer represents the best long-term solution rather than risking losing him for nothing the following year.

Inter are expected to return with a fresh approach in the closing weeks of the transfer window as they hope Liverpool soften their valuation. Much could also depend on whether the Reds can persuade Jones to sign a new contract before the deadline.
