Crystal Palace prepare Jayden Oosterwolde bid after identifying new defensive target

Crystal Palace have stepped up their pursuit of Fenerbahçe defender Jayden Oosterwolde after informing the Dutchman of their intention to make a move before the transfer window closes.

The Eagles are in the market for defensive reinforcements following Maxence Lacroix's departure to Chelsea, and Oosterwolde has emerged as one of the club's leading targets.

A formal approach to Fenerbahçe is now expected.

According to Turkish outlet Fener Ajans, via journalist Doruk Tecimer, both Crystal Palace and AS Roma have informed Oosterwolde's representatives of their desire to sign the 25-year-old this summer.

The report adds that both clubs are expected to submit official offers to Fenerbahçe in the coming days.

Although several clubs from Spain and France are also monitoring the defender, the player's preference is reportedly not a move to either La Liga or Ligue 1, potentially giving Palace an advantage in the race for his signature.

Crystal Palace's interest comes after negotiations with Augsburg for Chrislain Matsima reportedly collapsed.

The Eagles had identified the French defender as a priority target but became frustrated by Augsburg's valuation, prompting the club to explore alternative options.

Oosterwolde now appears to be one of the leading candidates as Oliver Glasner looks to strengthen his defence ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Dutch defender has previously been linked with a move to Selhurst Park, and Palace's interest now appears to have progressed beyond initial scouting.

Oosterwolde joined Fenerbahçe from Parma in 2023 in a deal worth around €6 million and has established himself as a regular in the Turkish side's defence.

His consistent performances have attracted interest from several European clubs, with his current market value estimated at around €20 million.

That valuation is similar to the fee Palace were reportedly quoted for Matsima, making Oosterwolde a realistic alternative if negotiations with Fenerbahçe progress.

With competition from Roma and other European clubs, Palace may need to move quickly if they are to secure one of their primary defensive targets before the transfer window closes.
