Tottenham and Manchester City keeping Francisco Trincão waiting as Al Ahli deal stalls

Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincão is continuing to delay a lucrative move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli as he waits to see whether Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester City turn their long-standing interest into a formal offer.

Although Al Ahli have already reached an agreement with Sporting, the transfer remains incomplete because the Portugal international has yet to give his approval.

According to reports in Portugal, Sporting and Al Ahli have agreed a deal worth around €45 million (£37.9 million).

However, the move is currently on hold, with Trincão still prioritising a switch to one of Europe's elite leagues, particularly the Premier League.

Record reports that Tottenham and Manchester City remain the winger's preferred destinations, despite neither club submitting an official bid to Sporting.

That has left all parties waiting while the 26-year-old considers his next move.

Trincão has been linked with several Premier League clubs throughout the transfer window.

Liverpool were initially reported to be interested as they searched for attacking reinforcements following Mohamed Salah's departure. However, those links faded after the Reds completed the signing of Víctor Muñoz.

Attention then shifted towards Tottenham and Manchester City.

Spurs' relationship with Sporting strengthened after completing the signing of midfielder Mateus Fernandes, while Manchester City have also continued to monitor Trincão's development.

Despite that interest, neither Premier League club has progressed beyond admiration into formal negotiations.

Al Ahli remain confident they can convince Trincão to make the move after offering the winger a hugely lucrative contract.

Reports suggest the Saudi club have proposed a four-year deal worth around €10 million net per season, making it one of the biggest financial offers of the player's career.

Even so, Trincão appears willing to delay a final decision in the hope that Tottenham or Manchester City decide to make their interest concrete.

With Sporting already agreeing terms with Al Ahli, the next step rests entirely with the player, whose future could be determined in the coming days.

Trincão must now decide whether to continue waiting for interest from the Premier League or accept Al Ahli's proposal. Unless Tottenham or Manchester City make a formal approach soon, the Sporting winger may ultimately choose the financial security of a move to Saudi Arabia.
