Tottenham 0-0 Everton: Spurs’ winless and goalless run continues as pressure builds on De Zerbi

Tottenham’s difficult start to the Premier League season continued as Roberto De Zerbi’s side were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Everton.

Spurs entered the game still searching for their first league victory of the campaign, but once again struggled to produce enough attacking quality to break down their opponents.

The result means Tottenham remain winless after four Premier League matches, while their problems in front of goal are becoming an increasingly significant concern for De Zerbi.

Tottenham had hoped a home meeting with Everton would provide the opportunity to kick-start their season, but another flat attacking display followed.

Despite seeing plenty of the ball, Spurs struggled to turn possession into clear opportunities and were unable to find the breakthrough.

It continues an alarming trend for De Zerbi, whose side also failed to score in their previous Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.

After spending around £380million during the summer transfer window, expectations were considerably higher.

De Zerbi was heavily backed following his arrival in north London, with Tottenham rebuilding their squad around the Italian coach.

However, that investment has yet to translate into Premier League results.

Defeats against Brentford and Newcastle were followed by successive goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton, leaving Spurs without a victory from their opening four league matches.

The lack of goals will be particularly concerning given the attacking talent available in the squad.

Tottenham's problems cannot simply be dismissed as an early-season adjustment period for much longer.

De Zerbi is implementing a different style and working with several new players, but £380m worth of summer investment inevitably brings pressure to produce results.

Another match without a goal only increases the scrutiny surrounding Tottenham's start.

Tottenham must quickly rediscover their attacking threat as De Zerbi attempts to turn around their poor start. With expectations significantly raised following the club’s enormous summer investment, a first Premier League victory is becoming increasingly important.
