Everton’s pursuit of Thierno Barry is facing a firm response from Villarreal, who are refusing to accept anything below his release clause.

The Spanish club’s sporting director Fernando Roig Nogueroles confirmed in a radio interview that Barry will only leave for a figure at or near the clause, despite Premier League interest heating up.

Everton Interest Real, but Price Is Firm

The 22-year-old striker caught attention after a breakout season in La Liga and Europe, netting 19 goals in 41 games. His displays at the U21 Euros further fuelled interest — with Everton leading the chase.

However, Villarreal are standing firm.

“We love the player, and if he were to leave, it would have to be, if not for the release clause, something very close to it. If not, he won’t leave.” — Fernando Roig Nogueroles

Barry Keen on Premier League Move

Reports in Spain suggest that Barry wants to play in the Premier League, which gives Everton some leverage — but only to a point.

Nogueroles emphasised the importance of player will, but made it clear that negotiations will start at the release clause, not below.

Analyst Verdict

Barry fits Everton’s profile — young, powerful, direct. But this deal hinges on money. Villarreal are in no rush to sell, and Barry’s stock is only rising.

Unless the Toffees are prepared to trigger or near-trigger the clause, he stays in Spain.
