Tarik Muharemovic believes unbeaten Leeds still have another level to reach

Tarik Muharemovic believes Leeds United have plenty of room for improvement despite entering the international break unbeaten in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace at Elland Road, leaving Leeds with nine points from their opening five matches and fifth in the table.

Muharemovic was pleased with the resilience Leeds displayed but admitted their work in possession fell below the standards they have set during their encouraging start to the campaign.

Palace made Leeds work hard for their point, with Pierre Sage’s side remaining compact defensively while creating several opportunities themselves.

James Trafford was required to make five saves, while Muharemovic played an important defensive role and recorded more touches than any other Leeds player.

“It’s a hard-fought point,” Muharemovic told BBC Radio Leeds. “At the end of the day, we’re still unbeaten in the Premier League. It’s a very good thing.”

The Bosnia international praised Palace’s organisation and felt both teams demonstrated the intensity required at Premier League level.

However, he agreed with Farke’s assessment that Leeds were not at their best when they had possession.

“The intensity was there but, with the ball, we know we can do much better,” he said.

That represents the next challenge for a Leeds team that demonstrated considerably more attacking fluency during their recent 4-1 victory over Newcastle.

Muharemovic has quickly established himself since completing a €34m move from Sassuolo in July.

The 23-year-old signed a five-year contract and has started all five of Leeds’ Premier League matches, contributing one assist.

“It’s amazing here,” he said. “I love being here, with the players, my brother.”

His defensive contribution against Palace further underlined his importance. Muharemovic produced crucial interventions to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen and Ismaila Sarr as Leeds protected another valuable point.

The defender can now temporarily turn his attention away from club football as he joins Bosnia for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Muharemovic will focus on international duty with Bosnia before returning to Leeds for the resumption of the Premier League campaign.

For Farke, the objective will be maintaining Leeds’ defensive resilience while finding the quicker, more incisive football that was missing against Palace.
