Liverpool could be asked to release Stefan Bajcetic from the final year of his contract as Celta Vigo push to bring the midfielder back to Spain.

The 21-year-old does not feature prominently in Andoni Iraola's plans and Liverpool are reportedly looking for a solution before the summer transfer window closes.

A return to Celta Vigo has now emerged as a serious possibility, but the Spanish club have made their position clear.

According to Faro de Vigo, Celta want Bajcetic to terminate his remaining year at Liverpool so they can sign him on a free transfer.

The report claims the midfielder is now “closer than ever” to returning to the club where he spent part of his youth career before moving to Anfield.

Celta Vigo want Bajcetic back

Celta are prepared to offer Bajcetic an opportunity to rebuild his career in familiar surroundings.

However, the Spanish side are not currently planning to place him directly into their first team.

Instead, Bajcetic would initially work within Celta's youth setup as he attempts to regain his fitness and rediscover his best form.

At 21, the midfielder is still young enough to move between the youth and senior squads, an approach Celta already use with several developing players.

There would also be no guarantee of first-team football.

Bajcetic would be expected to prove himself and earn his opportunities rather than immediately being handed a place in the senior side.

Liverpool must decide on final contract year

The major condition concerns Bajcetic's Liverpool contract.

Celta do not want to pay a transfer fee and will only pursue the move if the midfielder becomes available for free.

That would require Liverpool and Bajcetic to reach an agreement over terminating the final year of his deal.

Such a solution could potentially suit everyone involved.

Liverpool would be able to move on a player who reportedly does not feature in Iraola's plans, while Bajcetic would return to Spain and receive an opportunity to rebuild after a difficult period.

Celta, meanwhile, could bring back a player they already know without committing money to a transfer fee.

Fresh start could appeal to Bajcetic

Bajcetic's early breakthrough at Liverpool generated considerable excitement, but his progress has since been disrupted and regular senior football has proved difficult to secure.

Returning to Celta would therefore represent a very different step in his career.

Rather than immediately competing for a guaranteed senior role, the midfielder would be given time to regain rhythm and demonstrate that he is ready to force his way into the first-team picture.

For Liverpool, the decision will come down to whether they are prepared to sacrifice the possibility of receiving a transfer fee in order to provide Bajcetic with a clean break.

With only one year remaining on his contract, an agreement to terminate his deal could become increasingly realistic as the deadline approaches.

Key Points

  • Celta Vigo want to bring Stefan Bajcetic back from Liverpool.
  • The Spanish club want him to terminate the final year of his Liverpool contract and arrive for free.
  • Bajcetic would initially be given the opportunity to regain fitness within Celta's youth setup.
  • The 21-year-old reportedly does not feature in Andoni Iraola's plans at Liverpool.

What's Next?

Liverpool and Bajcetic must now decide whether terminating the final year of his contract is the best solution.

Celta have provided the midfielder with a potential route back to Spain, but their position appears firm: they do not want to pay a transfer fee.

If Liverpool agree to release him, Bajcetic could return to familiar surroundings and begin working towards earning a place in Celta's senior squad.

Should Liverpool agree to release Stefan Bajcetic for free and allow him to restart his career at Celta Vigo?
