Sporting reject Geny Catamo interest as Premier League clubs circle

Sporting CP are determined to keep Geny Catamo despite mounting interest from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Pro League, with the Portuguese champions refusing to entertain offers unless his €60 million release clause is met.

The Mozambique international enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign and has become one of Rui Borges' most important attacking players, making him effectively untouchable during the current transfer window.

Reports in Portugal claim several English and Saudi Arabian clubs are closely tracking Catamo's situation, while teams in France have also made enquiries.

However, Sporting believe only clubs with significant financial resources could realistically afford the 25-year-old, whose market value has risen sharply over the past year.

The Lisbon club rejected offers worth around €20 million from Aston Villa and Fenerbahçe last summer, and Catamo's performances since then have only strengthened Sporting's resolve to keep him.

Catamo recently saw his contract automatically extended until 2029, reinforcing Sporting's long-term plans for the winger.

Club officials reportedly view him as indispensable to Rui Borges' system and have no desire to enter negotiations, meaning any interested club would likely have to trigger his €60 million release clause.

Sporting are also reluctant to lose such an influential player because replacing him this late in the window would force the club back into the transfer market after already finalising much of their recruitment strategy.

Interest in Catamo is expected to continue throughout the transfer window, but Sporting remain confident of keeping one of their key players. Unless a club is prepared to meet the full release clause, the Portuguese champions are expected to resist all approaches and keep the winger at the heart of Rui Borges' plans for the new season.
