Roma eye €35m Sunderland winger Simon Adingra transfer

AS Roma are considering a move for Sunderland winger Simon Adingra, with the Serie A club viewing the Ivory Coast international as a realistic alternative after missing out on several attacking targets.

The 24-year-old endured a difficult first season at Sunderland but remains highly regarded across Europe, with Roma now weighing up a deal worth around €35 million.

According to reports in Italy, sporting director Tony D'Amico is a long-time admirer of Adingra and has added the Sunderland winger to Roma's shortlist.

The Giallorossi have struggled to strengthen their attack this summer after missing out on Mason Greenwood, while Crysencio Summerville opted to join Al Hilal despite Roma believing they were close to completing a deal.

A move for Antonio Nusa has also become increasingly complicated, leaving Adingra as one of the club's leading alternatives.

Reports claim Sunderland would demand around €35 million before considering the sale of the Ivory Coast international.

Roma are not thought to have concerns over Adingra's salary, with the winger reportedly earning around €1 million per season, making personal terms unlikely to present an obstacle.

The Italian club have already demonstrated their willingness to spend similar figures this summer after previously offering more than €35 million for Summerville.

Adingra struggled to establish himself as a regular starter following his move to Sunderland.

The winger played just 658 Premier League minutes during the 2025/26 campaign before spending the second half of the season on loan at Monaco.

His spell in Ligue 1 proved more encouraging, contributing five goals across 14 league appearances, while also featuring twice in the Champions League.

Adingra also represented Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup, helping his country reach the Round of 32.

A move to Roma could provide Adingra with the consistent first-team football he has struggled to find since arriving at Sunderland.

Working under Gian Piero Gasperini, who has built a reputation for developing dynamic attacking players, could offer the ideal environment for the winger to rediscover his best form.

Champions League football would also provide another major attraction should negotiations progress.

Roma are expected to continue assessing Simon Adingra alongside other attacking targets before deciding whether to submit an official offer. Sunderland are unlikely to entertain negotiations unless their reported €35 million valuation is met.
