HSV step up Sebastiaan Bornauw talks as Leeds United exit edges closer

HSV Hamburg have intensified talks over a move for Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw as the Bundesliga club continues its search for a new defensive leader.

According to BILD and the Hamburger Morgenpost, Bornauw remains Hamburg's preferred target to replace Luka Vušković, with discussions continuing despite financial obstacles.

Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa is leading the club's recruitment drive and has identified the Leeds defender as the ideal addition to strengthen the back line.

The 27-year-old is admired for his experience, leadership qualities and ability to organise a defence, while his fluency in German is viewed as another significant advantage.

Bornauw heads a shortlist of centre-backs under consideration as Hamburg look to fill the void left by Vušković following the end of his loan spell.

Although Hamburg are keen to complete the transfer, the club's financial limitations are complicating negotiations.
