Roberto Mancini distances himself from Manchester City charges: ‘Not my problem’

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has distanced himself from allegations surrounding the club’s financial breaches and claims he benefited from a controversial second contract during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking ahead of Italy’s Nations League clash with Turkey, Mancini rejected suggestions that the issue should concern him and also defended his former club.

The allegations relating to Mancini concern claims that he received additional compensation through an agreement with Abu Dhabi club Al-Jazira while managing Manchester City.

Reports previously alleged Mancini received a €1.75million salary from City alongside another €2.03m through a consultancy arrangement with Al-Jazira.

However, the Italy manager was reluctant to engage with the allegations when questioned about them.

“It’s not a problem that concerns me, and it isn’t anything new,” Mancini said.

On claims surrounding the second agreement, he added: “On the double contract it isn’t my problem, theirs if anything.”

Mancini also disputed the suggestion that Manchester City should already be considered guilty, insisting: “Manchester City are not guilty.”

Mancini’s comments come as Manchester City continue to challenge the financial case against them.

The original Premier League case contained 115 charges covering alleged financial breaches across several years, including part of Mancini’s spell as manager between 2009 and 2013.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has maintained the club’s position of innocence and warned against reaching conclusions before the process has been completed.

“Nothing has changed,” Al Mubarak said, while insisting City would not allow outside criticism to undermine the club.

Manchester City are expected to pursue an appeal against adverse findings, meaning the dispute could continue before any final punishment is established.

Mancini, meanwhile, has made his position clear. He does not consider the contractual allegations his responsibility and is focusing instead on Italy’s upcoming fixtures.

Manchester City’s legal battle is set to continue, with the club maintaining its innocence and preparing to challenge findings against it.

The potential consequences remain significant, but any sanctions would depend on the final outcome of the process.

For Mancini, the immediate priority is international football. The Italy manager has attempted to draw a firm line between himself and the controversy as he prepares his side to face Turkey in the Nations League.
