Newcastle and Leeds target Inter midfielder Petar Sučić

Newcastle United and Leeds United have both made early enquiries over Inter Milan midfielder Petar Sučić, but the Serie A giants have no intention of allowing one of their most promising young players to leave this summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport, both Premier League clubs have indicated they would be prepared to invest between €35 million and €40 million for the Croatia international following an impressive debut campaign in Italy. Despite that interest, Inter are determined to retain the 22-year-old as they continue planning for the future under head coach Cristian Chivu.

Sučić officially became an Inter player after agreeing his move in January 2025 before joining the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The midfielder adapted quickly to life in Serie A, making 34 league appearances while also featuring 10 times in the UEFA Champions League. One of the standout moments of his first European campaign came when he found the net against Arsenal during the league phase.

His club form has been matched on the international stage. Sučić enhanced his growing reputation during the FIFA World Cup, where his performances for Croatia, particularly against Portugal, attracted attention from clubs across Europe.

That development has prompted Newcastle and Leeds to assess the possibility of a move, with both clubs reportedly sounding out the conditions of a potential transfer.

Despite the level of interest, Inter have made their position clear.

The Italian club reportedly have complete confidence in Sučić's long-term development and believe he can become one of the pillars of their midfield over the coming seasons.

Chivu is understood to see significant room for improvement, particularly as experienced midfielders Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Çalhanoğlu enter the latter stages of their careers. Inter view Sučić as a natural part of the club's long-term succession plan rather than a player available for transfer.

The Croatian has also returned to pre-season training after his post-World Cup break and remains fully focused on preparing for the new campaign with the Nerazzurri.

Sučić's first season demonstrated both his quality and his potential. While there were occasional signs of inconsistency, Inter believe regular football and increased responsibility will help accelerate his development.

That confidence explains why the club are unwilling to consider offers, even at a figure approaching €40 million. If Sučić continues progressing, his market value could rise significantly over the next 12 months, making any future transfer considerably more expensive for interested clubs.

Newcastle and Leeds may continue monitoring Sučić's progress, but Inter's current stance leaves little room for negotiations. Unless the Italian club significantly change their position later in the window, the Croatian midfielder is expected to remain at San Siro and play an even bigger role during the 2026/27 season.
