Pedro Porro has made it clear he has no intention of leaving Tottenham Hotspur, insisting he is "very happy" after committing his long-term future to the north London club.
The Spain international had been linked with a move away following another difficult Premier League campaign for Spurs, but those rumours were effectively ended when he signed a new contract earlier this month.
Now, speaking from Spain's World Cup camp, Porro has explained why he never considered leaving.
New contract ends speculation
Tottenham moved quickly to secure Porro's future by handing the right-back a new deal running until 2031, with the agreement also including the option of a further year.
The extension came after months of speculation surrounding several senior Spurs players following the club's struggles near the bottom of the Premier League.
For Porro, however, the decision was straightforward.
Asked whether the new contract had given him peace of mind, the defender admitted he is settled at Tottenham.
"Yes. I'm very happy. It was a place where I felt very comfortable, and now I can focus entirely on what needs to be done."
The new agreement ensures one of Tottenham's most important players remains part of Roberto De Zerbi's long-term plans.
Porro never considered leaving
Despite speculation surrounding Spurs' future after successive disappointing league campaigns, Porro insists he never viewed leaving as the solution.
Instead, he remained focused on helping the club through a difficult period.
"I never saw it that way."
The 26-year-old explained that his responsibility was to support the team rather than pay attention to outside criticism.
"My mindset was to see it through, whatever it took. Every day I went to training thinking about helping the club get out of that situation because I felt it was my responsibility."
Ignoring outside criticism
Porro also dismissed suggestions that public opinion influenced his thinking.
The defender revealed he prefers to focus on those closest to him rather than external criticism.
"I thought exactly the opposite. That's why I say that what people think is secondary."
He added:
"At the end of the day, it's you yourself who works and lives with the situation. There will always be people who think well or badly of you. I prefer to stick with the people who love me."
Those comments underline his commitment to Tottenham despite a turbulent period for the club.
