Pape Sarr beginning to show Juventus what Tottenham could not unlock

Pape Sarr is beginning to make an impression at Juventus after leaving Tottenham late in the summer transfer window, with Andrea Stramaccioni believing the midfielder has the tools to become an important player in Turin.

Sarr joined Juventus on loan after it became clear he was not central to Roberto De Zerbi’s plans at Spurs. The agreement includes a conditional obligation which could see Juventus pay £23.6million to make the transfer permanent.

Three appearances into his spell in Italy, there are already encouraging signs that the 24-year-old could benefit from his change of surroundings.

Sarr came off the bench during Juventus’ 2-0 victory over Atalanta and caught Stramaccioni’s attention with his ability to carry possession through midfield.

Speaking to DAZN, the former Inter Milan manager acknowledged Sarr had struggled during the defeat to Sassuolo but saw a considerable improvement against Atalanta.

“He touched the ball a lot, he has this run of pace, and it shows what kind of player he is,” Stramaccioni said, via TuttoJuve.

Sarr’s contribution was not limited to progressing the ball.

Stramaccioni highlighted his success in tackles and believes the Senegal international possesses enough creativity to develop into a more complete midfielder.

“He has that through ball in his arsenal, and if he can find it in the future, he could become something important,” he added.

The timing of Sarr’s arrival could prove significant.

Juventus are dealing with serious midfield absences, with Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram expected to remain unavailable until 2027. Those injuries should create opportunities for Sarr across Serie A and the Europa League.

After dealing with fitness issues of his own, the Tottenham loanee is now in a position to compete for regular minutes.

From Football Place’s perspective, the next few months could determine whether his temporary move becomes permanent. Sarr has already demonstrated his athleticism, work rate and ability to drive forward, but establishing himself as a consistent starter would significantly strengthen his case.

With a £23.6m permanent transfer potentially waiting at the end of the loan, he now has the opportunity at Juventus that appeared increasingly unlikely under De Zerbi at Tottenham.

Sarr should receive further opportunities as Juventus manage their midfield injury problems alongside Serie A and Europa League commitments.

Regular starts and consistent performances would put him in a strong position to establish himself in Turin and potentially turn his Tottenham departure into a permanent move to Juventus.
