Darío Osorio’s limited involvement at Crystal Palace is reportedly the result of a minor fitness problem rather than difficulties adapting to life in the Premier League.
The Chile international joined Palace from Midtjylland on Deadline Day on an initial loan containing a conditional obligation to buy, arriving at Selhurst Park with considerable expectations after establishing himself in Denmark.
Osorio has made two appearances for Pierre Sage’s side but has not featured since starting the EFL Cup victory over Middlesbrough.
Palace keen to avoid turning minor issue into bigger problem
Osorio made his Palace debut from the bench against Fulham on September 5 before receiving his first start a few days later.
His subsequent absence generated concern in Chile, but journalist Jorge Hevia Cristino has moved to play down suggestions that the 22-year-old is struggling in England.
“Darío Osorio isn’t going through any ordeal in Europe,” Cristino reported. “He had a minor issue and they’re taking it easy on him.”
The upcoming international break has apparently influenced Palace’s approach, with the club choosing not to risk aggravating what is currently considered a minor problem.
That caution is understandable given Osorio had already accumulated 829 minutes across 11 appearances for Midtjylland before completing his move to England.
Midtjylland expect Osorio to suit Premier League
There remains significant optimism around what Osorio could eventually offer Palace.
Midtjylland sporting director Kristian Kjær previously told Sport Witness that Osorio's speed in possession, powerful shooting and precise left foot make him particularly dangerous going forward.
Kjær also highlighted his pressing ability, top-end speed and character as qualities that should translate effectively to Premier League football.
Palace have therefore seen little reason to rush a player they hope can become an important attacking option once fully ready.
From their perspective, protecting Osorio now could prove more valuable than forcing additional minutes before the international break.
The next challenge will be getting him completely fit and allowing him to demonstrate why Palace were prepared to structure a deal that could eventually become permanent.
